Original source text: Human immunodeficiency virus 2
(individual_isolate ROD) (clone: lambda ROD[27,35].) DNA.
The ROD isolate was obtained from offshore Senegal in 1985 and this
seqence was subsequently determined from two clones: positions 1 to
2658 from ROD 27 and positions 2659 to 9671 from ROD 35. The X ORF
has not been found in HIV1. Because the authors claim 100-fold
cross-transactivation, we have tentatively annotated the tat
protein as tat-III, although the HIV2-tat is somewhat larger and
may exhibit a differing specificity.
An infectious clone of this virus has been constructed by Keith
Peden, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Johns Hopkins University
School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD. 21205 (301)955-3652.
